All fees listed below are inclusive of VAT and are charged on an annual basis. Payment may be made either by monthly direct debit or as a single upfront payment for the full year. Please note that payments received in full before 22 July 2026 are eligible for a 1% discount.

Annual Compulsory Charges are listed separately on fees invoices and are collected alongside monthly school fees.

All Junior School pupils take part in a range of local outings during the session, referred to as Annual Activities. In addition:

Pupils in Primary 4 to Primary 7 attend residential camps during May and June.
Pupils in S1 and S2 participate in the Middle School Projects Week outdoor activities programme in May.
Pupils in S3 attend an outdoor education project at Carbisdale, in the north of Scotland.

Laptop charge

All pupils from Primary 6 to Sixth Form are provided with a personal laptop to support teaching and learning within the School. The annual charge for the 2026/27 session is £196.02.

Lunch

School lunch is compulsory for Primary 1 pupils and is charged as part of the school fees bill. The cost for the 2026/27 session is £918.

Fees Terms & Conditions

Fee accounts are payable in advance of services being provided and should be settled by monthly Direct Debit instalments commencing 1 August. Where fees remain outstanding, the School reserves the right to suspend or withdraw a pupil’s place until the outstanding balance has been settled in full. The School also reserves the right to charge interest on overdue amounts and to recover any reasonable costs incurred in collecting unpaid fees.

Notice of Withdrawal and Fees in Lieu of Notice

The School requires a full term’s written notice if you plan to withdraw your child, or a full term’s fees in lieu of notice will be charged.

1140 hours at Erskine Stewart Melville Nursery

Our Nursery benefits from being in partnership with City of Edinburgh Council, meaning those who are eligible can receive 1140 funded hours, which equates to our term time Nursery provision. Contact our Admissions Team to find out more.

Extra costs

Parents naturally want to know if there will be extra expenses in addition to the annual school fees.

Uniform

Stevensons sell new uniforms, PE and Games kit in their Edinburgh shop. You can order online from Stevensons or visit their shop at 1-3 Elfin Square, Edinburgh EH11 3AN. We also operate a Thrift Shop offering a wide selection of good quality, second-hand uniforms as well as non-uniform clothing and equipment, such as sporting gear, walking boots and ski suits. Please check our Uniform Guidelines to see which items of new uniform are required this session.

Books and Stationery

Lunch

School lunch is compulsory for pupils in Primary 1 and is included within the school fees invoice. The cost for the 2026/27 academic session is £918.

For pupils in Primary 2 through to Sixth Form, school lunches are optional and available through the school’s cashless catering system on a pay-as-you-go basis. This system allows pupils to purchase breakfast, snacks, and lunches as required.

For Nursery children, if families are eligible for the Early Learning and Childcare Funding (1140 hours), there is no extra cost for a hot lunch.

Wraparound Care

Our wraparound care service, formerly e-Plus, is available from £5.40 per day. Between Early Birds, After School Club and Holiday Club, you can be covered for nearly 50 weeks of the year. Childcare Vouchers or the Government backed tax free childcare scheme can be used to offset the cost of e-Plus.

Fee Remission for Siblings

For families joining Erskine Stewart Melville from session 2022/23 onwards: Where four or more children attend our schools (Primary 1 to Sixth Form) at the same time, a 25% reduction in fees applies to the eldest child’s account. For families whose first child was in attendance at the School during session 2021/22: A 25% reduction in fees will continue to apply when three or more children attend our schools at the same time (Primary 1 to Sixth Form). The discount is applied to the eldest child’s account.

Financial assistance, in the form of means-tested bursaries and scholarships, may be available in our Senior School.

Charitable Trusts

A number of Educational and Charitable Trusts will consider providing fee assistance, but generally only in cases of very clear and genuine need. Eligibility and award criteria vary so it is best to contact the individual trusts directly.
