Wellbeing
At Erskine Stewart Melville Nursery, we put wellbeing at the centre of everything we do because we know that when children feel happy, safe and secure they are far more likely to thrive.
Working Together as a Family
We keep our teacher to child ratios small, and we take the time to build strong relationships with every child so that we get to know them personally and understand how to support and nurture them.
Our Nursery staff work together as a family, with everyone taking responsibility for the wellbeing of the children in our care. This helps our children to develop skills for life, such as resilience and self-belief which will help them to deal with the challenges they encounter both in childhood and later as adults.
Our Five Values
We are a diverse community and while recognising that every child is unique, we aim to develop five core values in them all, beginning with our youngest Nursery children. These five values are displayed in subtle but impactful ways throughout your child’s nursery experience, and in the long run, will support their personal and academic growth, setting them on a path to shape a better world.
Nurturing Spaces and Nutritious Food
As well as our spacious, fun-filled Nursery rooms, we have two Nurture Rooms which our children can visit whenever they need. These are calm, serene rooms with lots of soft furnishings, sensory resources and soft lighting, which offer a quiet space away from the hustle and bustle of the Nursery day.
And for healthy minds and bodies, a nutritious diet is key. Lunch is served family-style in our Early Years Dining Facility with the class eating alongside the teachers. Our menus are varied with many family favourites such as chilli con carne and roast chicken on the menu, and veggie options such as cheesy pasta and vegan sausage rolls as well. The children also enjoy a selection of fruit and crudités alongside every meal. Good table manners and trying new food is encouraged, and at snack time, children learn to clear their plates away when they are finished.
Child Protection Policy
At Erskine Stewart Melville, safeguarding and child protection are at the heart of everything we do. Our comprehensive policy ensures the safety and wellbeing of all children by promoting a culture of vigilance and respect. Staff receive regular training to recognize and respond to signs of abuse or neglect, while clear procedures are in place for reporting concerns. We work closely with parents, carers, and external agencies to create a safe and supportive environment where every child can thrive. Click here to read our Child Protection policy.
Working With You
Good communication with our families is key for a happy Nursery experience. We have regular parent consultations to update on your child’s wellbeing and progress. Our door is always open – you can drop in any time to have a chat about any questions or worries you may have. We recognise that modern parenting has its challenges, which is why our wellbeing programme includes our parents. We also run workshops to give parents additional tools to support their children at home. Families facing particular challenges can be connected with our expert consultants who are on hand to advise staff and offer bespoke support.
Growing and Learning
At our Nursery, we are dedicated to nurturing the emotional and physical wellbeing of every child, ensuring they feel supported, valued, and empowered to thrive.
