Charity & Community Partnerships

Community is at the heart of everything we do, from instilling a strong sense of belonging, to supporting the wider community. At Erskine Stewart Melville community means compassion, warmth and somewhere to feel safe and comfortable. You can still be yourself, and it’s important that you are – individuality is something we celebrate. There is a feeling throughout the school, a kindness, a sense of place. Community as a value is important, but community as a feeling should be recognised the moment you step through the door.

“The £3,000 prize money donated by the school was used to help fund a year’s supply of food for twelve families. The Welcoming’s community fridge is a fridge located in a public, accessible space, filled with donated food and is freely available to anyone who is struggling to cope with the increased cost of living these days. Thirty different families use the fridge every week on a rotational basis.”

Jenni Flett, Communications and Campaigns Co-ordinator, The Welcoming

“Erskine Stewart Melville has been a terrific and constant support over the past 6 years since we were founded. The children and staff from all three schools have fundraised, raised awareness of our small charity and provided comfort kits, phone chargers and insulated bottles for over 30 families who have had their child rushed to either the RHCYP in Edinburgh or RHC Glasgow in an emergency. The kindness and goodwill of staff and pupils has been a lifeline for us as a small charity and for the families we support in a crisis. We are hugely grateful.”

Jen Bennett, Founder, Finlay’s Friends

“Having volunteered at Cubs every Friday for the past three years, my DofE volunteering journey has been one filled with learning, growth and joy. This experience has not only allowed me to contribute to the community but has also gifted me with valuable insights and skills, such as leadership, patience, and adaptability.”

Vision for the Future

Our new Erskine Stewart Melville: Vision for the Future has community as one of its 3 key thematic areas and our strategy aims to embed a philanthropic culture across the school, where Erskine Stewart Melville students are actively encouraged to be involved in charitable activities at a meaningful level through giving and volunteering their time. We are working with a range of partners including local state schools, charity partners and voluntary groups to give our students the necessary philanthropic skills, behaviours and attributes that they need to ensure that they will become responsible, active and engaged citizens of the future, as well as increasing our social impact at a local, national and international level.
