Primary 7s’ First Visit to Puy du Fou

Last month, our Primary 7s travelled to France for a history trip that included a first-ever visit to the renowned Puy du Fou theme park.

The visit brought key moments from European history vividly to life through immersive shows and performances, complementing students’ classroom learning in an unforgettable way.

Below, P7 student Georgina shares her personal reflections on the trip.

During the Easter holidays a group of ESM Junior School students went to France for a history trip. It started with an early morning and a long wait in Charles de Gaulle airport, then a scenic bus ride to our first stop, a boat cruise along the River Seine. It was surprisingly hot! After, we walked to the one and only Eiffel Tower! We climbed the 674 steps to the second floor and saw a breath-taking panoramic view of Paris. After coming down, we went on an exceptionally hot bus ride to our hotel in Cholet. We had a little pit stop halfway at McDonalds with many messed up drink orders! Then we continued to Cholet with Mr Watsons’ excellent quizzing! At the hotel, we were so tired we just went straight to bed.

After an early start, we drove half an hour to the magnificent Puy Du Fou theme park. At first, I didn’t know what to expect, maybe boring shows, random speeches, but I was stunned. We were met with flying birds, moving castle walls, ship explosions, people being chased by mini armies of pigs and geese! Then we went to a show called Les Amoureux de Verdun, set on Christmas eve 1916. It was filled with explosions and air raids. It was also very interesting seeing the war from the French point-of-view. After watching that and many other spectacular shows (including one built in a replica of the Roman Colosseum) we had dinner in the park. After dinner, we then ventured to the playground, playing for what seemed forever! Then the group made its way to the night show, Les Noces de Feu where a pianist and a violinist fell in love with each other. It really brought meaning to the saying there is beauty without words. The next day we saw award winning show, Le Mime et l’Ɖtoile and Mousquetaire de Richelieu.

After an early morning wakeup, we drove down to the Sacre Coeur in Paris. On the way there we stopped outside the place where Moulin Rouge was performed! We even saw the Eiffel Tower again! After that, we drove 20 minutes to Choco Story France where we went through a really cool museum with different tasting areas filled with delectable chocolate. After a quick stop at the gift shop, we then went on our way back to the airport! After a quick dinner, we came home.

In conclusion, I know that I will never forget this trip and all the memories we made and lessons we learned, like never forget to pack your toothbrush! It was an amazing trip and hopefully it will continue in all the years to come.
