Celebrating a New Chapter in Music at ESMS

“I wanted to give a gift to Mary Erskine to recognise how school developed my musical interest and talents, the very good times I had at school, the excellent education it gave me and the very strong friendships we have maintained for more than 60 years.  The battle cry Mitis et Fortis is still bandied about when one of us hits a particularly difficult time.

I was delighted when I approached the school, and they suggested an organ was needed.  The artwork on the front of the organ represents my extracurricular time at Mary Erskine – hockey, Guides and music.  In light of the merging of the schools I was very keen for the organ to display a strong Mary Erskine presence, and I think this does that.”  Penny Hedges, October 2025.

We were treated to incredible organ performances by Becca Ye (S3), our James Monihan Organ Scholar as well as Simon Leach, Organ Master and Eric von Ibler (class of 1972), as well as other incredibly talented pupils. The wonderful artwork on the back of the organ was designed by Paz Orbegozo (S4).

Plans are already underway to make the most of this fantastic new addition and we look forward to many more musical moments in the years ahead.
