This substantial investment will help to enhance the school’s educational facilities, notably increasing the number of science labs at the site of the new senior school to enable the school to meet the interest in STEM subjects. The refurbished and expanded science building will proudly bear the names of esteemed former pupils the late Sir Fraser Stoddart and the late Dr Norma Stoddart, celebrating their outstanding contributions to science.
Sir Fraser Stoddart was a Nobel Prize-winning scientist, renowned for his groundbreaking work in supramolecular chemistry. His wife, Dr Norma Agnes Stoddart, was also an accomplished scientist, producing numerous influential scientific papers on behalf of the Stoddart Research Group.
The generous funding will also help to support the development of a dedicated Wellbeing Hub for the new school, as part of the school’s commitment to the mental and emotional health of our students.
Anthony Simpson, Principal commented, “This generous donation by the Melville College Trust comes at the perfect time as we forge ahead with plans to get the new fully co-educational school ready for its opening in August 2026. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the Melville College Trust for their invaluable support and vision, helping us shape a bright future for generations of pupils to come.”
Stephen Paterson, Chair of Melville College Trust adds: “We are extremely pleased to be able to offer our support, especially at such a key moment in the School’s history. We are looking forward to seeing how the donation can make a real impact on the School community.”
