Junior and Senior School Assessments
We are delighted that you are considering Erskine Stewart Melville for your child. Assessments this year are for families hoping to join our School in August 2026.
Primary 1-7 AssessmentsÂ
Junior School assessments are fun activity sessions, where a friendly and experienced teacher will spend time with your child, getting to know them so we can gauge their educational needs. Children will be with our staff for about an hour so you can enjoy a coffee or chat with a member of the Leadership Team while you wait.
- In Primary 1, children are assessed through activities and games
- In Primary 2 and 3, we assess elements of Literacy and Numeracy
- Primary 4-7 children are assessed in small groups and are taken through a range of written and computerised assessments.
Assessments for our Junior School are on-going from November. Please complete the application form and our Admissions Team will be in touch to arrange a date that suits you.
S1 AssessmentsÂ
Our S1 Assessment Day will take place on Thursday 8 January for families applying for August 2026 entry.
- Applications should be submitted by Monday 8 December 2025.
- On the day, children will complete short papers in Mathematics, English, and Verbal Reasoning, as well as enjoy a tour of the school and an opportunity to meet our teachers.
- If you have missed the deadline, please contact us for a bespoke assessment
S2 and Above
Applications for S2 and above are welcomed throughout the year. For those in an examination year, prelim results may be used. Please contact our Admissions team for more information.
Our Move to Co-Education
From August 2026 we will be one fully co-education school. Stewart’s Melville College and The Mary Erskine School will come together at our Queensferry Road Campus and our Junior School will be at Ravelston. Find out more about the changes here.
