The Historical Association is the UK’s national charity for History, supporting the teaching, learning and enjoyment of the subject. Its Quality Mark is a respected accolade, recognising excellence in history education across primary and secondary schools both in the UK and internationally.

MES originally received the Silver Award in 2021, after a thorough assessment by an HA expert across five key areas: Learning and Teaching, Leadership, Curriculum, Achievement, and Enrichment. This year’s successful renewal required another in-depth portfolio review and self-evaluation, reaffirming the strength of the department across all criteria.

MES remains the only school in Scotland to hold the Quality Mark at any level – a remarkable achievement that reflects both the dedication of our staff and the passion of our students.

Congratulations to the whole History Department on this well-deserved recognition!
