With our current group of Sixth Form students about to break for Easter and then head onto study leave, we’ll certainly miss having them around. As they prepare for their exams, this is the perfect moment to celebrate some of the fantastic new community initiatives our S6 pupils have embraced so enthusiastically this year.
Throughout the year, some of our S6 students have dedicated themselves as mentors and tutors through a mentoring project with local charity Circle, and the Volunteer Tutor Organisation’s programme, both held at primary schools in nearby Pilton. Our pupils have shown outstanding commitment, volunteering weekly in these after-school programmes since September.
Each week, they’ve spent time working one-on-one with primary-aged children who benefit from additional support. They’ve encouraged positive attitudes toward learning, assisted with homework, literacy, and numeracy skills, and most importantly, had fun making a real impact.
It’s been lovely to see our pupils grow into their roles as the year has progressed and to witness the powerful effect these programmes have had both on them and their mentees. Our students have formed genuine friendships with the children they’ve been supporting and have gained so much from the experience. We’re incredibly proud of their commitment, compassion, and the positive difference they’ve made.
